My Approach

Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already.

My offerings are based on the following frameworks:

Mindful Self-Compassion

Explore the art and science of treating ourselves like we would a good friend, particularly in the midst of stress and difficulty.

Rather than adding to our to-do list, the practice of self-compassion incorporates tools and perspectives to employ on-the-spot anytime, anywhere. Compassion is considered to be an energizing emotion, and can help us to feel more connected with others and with our own inner resources and wisdom.

Self-compassion involves being caring and supportive to ourselves when we experience difficulty: listening to ourselves with understanding; remembering we are not alone in our struggles; soothing, comforting, and protecting ourselves; and making changes out of self-love and a commitment to growth.

Research has demonstrated that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing, enhanced coping with life challenges, lower levels of anxiety and depression, and sustaining healthy habits.

Self-compassion can be learned and strengthened, with practice. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported training program designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion for personal growth and wellbeing.

I am a Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) Teacher, offering MSC classes, custom workshops and one-on-one coaching to help individuals and groups learn, explore, and apply self-compassion.

Self-Compassion Coaching

Focused on your goals, this one-on-one work incorporates self-compassion theory, practices and perspectives. Together we will unpack your experiences, consider wisdom from contemplative traditions including mindfulness and compassion, and explore practical ways to infuse self-compassion into your daily life for enhanced well-being.

Wellness & Health Coaching

A comprehensive process that takes a holistic approach to well-being, and may involve exploring / taking new and generative action in any area of life, such as: relationship to self and others; physical, emotional, and/or spiritual health; personal and/or professional growth and development; and pursuing activities – recreational or otherwise — for joy, meaning, and purpose.

Designing Your Life (DYL) / Creative Life Design Coaching

A creative, action-oriented approach to defining meaning and purpose, increasing balance and energy, defining solvable problems to get unstuck, and envisioning and testing future possibilities. DYL applies the creative, human-centered design-thinking methodology to intentionally craft a life of meaning, purpose, and joy.

Trauma-Informed Mindfulness

An approach that incorporates an awareness of the way trauma impacts the body and provides a more inclusive range of options for practice. Trauma-informed mindfulness can be integrated into coaching sessions, courses, and custom workshops.

Yoga

A contemplative practice for healing, integration, connection and kindness. Yoga offers an opportunity to listen deeply to our minds, bodies and hearts, to heal with movement and breath, and to play with embodying mindfulness and self-compassion. I currently teach yoga through Jai Yoga in Brunswick, Maine. Yoga can also be incorporated into coaching or custom workshops.
